Flowers and Showers

The first day of the second phase of the online school internship on 26.01.2021 (Tuesday) felt the same for me. I felt as if I was in a beautiful garden surrounded by fragrant flowers. Even though we were physically separated I could still smell and enjoy the fragrance that emerged from the flowers of VIII C. Jeevan, Rakesh, Rishikesh, Sanudev, Sreeram, Subhash, Sarath, Vignesh and Abhisekh were my flowers. Their innocence, thirst for knowledge, playful banter, curiosity, friendship and yearning to get together gave me the much-needed inspiration to keep going. They were the motivating factors that drove me forward throughout. Everything has been said and done has been for them and them only. The satisfaction you get when you can create a genuine smile on the face of a child is nothing short of bliss. And I was enjoying that feeling throughout. I hope I will be able to do justice to the belief my students have in me. That’s my only prayer.

It was important to me that all the teaching aids and things that have been used for setting up the class should follow the green protocol by avoiding plastic and other materials harmful to nature. What is the point if you fail to practice what you preach?

The lockdown has robbed the students of many things. The feeling of being in a class is one of them. I really felt the students could benefit if there was a feeling that they were in a real class other than an online platform. I tried my best to create the atmosphere of a classroom for the students.

Providing reinforcement is the key to successful teaching and learning experience. A chart has been set up to mark the attendance and to provide reinforcements to the students throughout the class as they indulge themselves in activities.

The teaching aids made for introducing the theme of the lesson felt appropriate and striking as it could bring in the interest and elicit responses from the students.

  • Video on Nature

The video that has been used to introduce the theme was really captivating. The advantage is that nothing has been the ready-made available materials downloaded from the net or YouTube. Everything has been edited and crafted to suit the demands of the students which require extra effort and time.

  • Live Recitation

Music can add beauty to the class. If it’s in the voice of the teacher herself, then it's added advantage. You need to use it well.

The first day was an insightful one for me. The day taught me to explore myself more and to push my limits. I hope the results will be satisfactory. Above all the smiling faces made me happy. what could one need more? Hoping for many more such days. 😊😊😊

Each student brought something of their own to the classroom and thus contributed their share. Barring the network issues and technological hindrances it was the feeling of a real classroom that they gave me. I never felt as if I am conversing on a phone or camera. Their earnestness to know and understand things surprised me. They made me motivated every day. I felt as if the works and efforts that I put forward were not in vain then.
